Nepal’s justice system does not have a specific law or a regulatory framework to address issues of justice relating to the youths of Nepal. The law relating to children has an overlapping attention paid to youths.
While the 2018 Act Relating to Children outlines provisions for “Juvenile Justice,” it fails to fully translate those ideals into reality. Unlike India, Nepal lacks a dedicated Juvenile Justice Board and separate act. While the law includes potential for parole, probation, restorative justice, and non-custodial measures, procedures and resources for implementation remain absent. Consequently, the vision of prevention, restoration, and reintegration remains unattainable.
