In collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nepal Forum for Restorative Justice organized a two-day pilot workshop in Waling Municipality, Syangja, from February 2-3, 2024. This workshop initiative aimed to foster a comprehensive understanding of human rights and social justice principles and practices within the community, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing the region’s commitment to human rights and justice.
The two-day pilot workshop was designed to support local-level government in promoting an inclusive, accountable, and justiciable development process at the local level through human rights approaches. This involves ensuring inclusive development, encouraging citizen participation and empowerment, fostering accountability and adherence to the rule of law, addressing social inequalities, upholding human dignity, building institutional and community capacity, aligning legal frameworks with human rights standards, and employing data collection and monitoring for informed decision-making.
The workshop had 31 participants (23 males and 8 females), including the mayor, deputy mayor, ward chairpersons, officials from Waling Municipality, human rights defenders, and representatives from various CSOs. The technical support to this was provided by Mr. Madhu Duwadi from TRIOD. The program is supported by The Asia Foundation/DFAT.
